PRETTY LITTLE LIARS MID-SEASON FINALE || MY THOUGHTS

If you follow me on Twitter you probably know by now I am a big fan of Pretty Little Liars, I’ve spent the last seven years of my life watching this show -kind of sad when you think about it…- and I get very emotionally involved whenever there’s some drama.

Yesterday night, the second to last season finale ever premiered and OH MY GOD. The last few episodes of PLL had been rather mediocre and I was just watching it for the sake of it so I wasn’t expecting much from the finale. Well, 5 minutes into it and I was proper anxious. 20 minutes into it and I had to spoil myself because I couldn't take it. 40 minutes into it and I nearly had a nervous breakdown. So here are some of my thoughts whilst watching the finale, which is pretty much a summary of the episode as well.

*CONTAINS SPOILERS*

  • Aria go back with Jason, he da real bae.
  • No, Hannah, there wasn’t any ketchup in the blood sample.
  • No, Hannah, you did not remember to feed and water him.

THINGS EVERY UNI STUDENT NEEDS TO KNOW

The life of a student is tough. We are pressured to perform well in school, to do as well as we’re able to and sometimes that’s not even enough. On top of that, we have to find time to see our friends, families, have a social life, sleep, watch TV shows, etc.

In light of the upcoming back to school season, I thought I would share with you and remind you of some things we all should keep in mind during this school year.

- Things can become too much, take a break. It’s okay to leave you're desk for a few hours and do something fun or relaxing.

- Pretty stationery makes everything better. A trip to Paperchase or Kikki K. can brighten up your day of study.

- M&S Ready Meals are great when you don’t want to cook. Yes, they are more expensive than Tesco’s but at least they don’t taste like tasteless garbage.

- Dry shampoo works fine if you’re having a bit of a bad hair day but it’s not a shampoo substitute, don’t use it as such.

- The fridge was made for something more than storing beers and ciders. Veggies and fruits are good for you and you will feel much more energised and productive when you have a good diet.

- Sometimes, it’s okay to skip a lecture or two. It’s not a crime and you’ll probably skip a 9AM lecture at some point in your life.

- Don’t go overboard with alcohol. You don’t live with your parents anymore, you can do whatever you want, yes, great. But getting wasted every day will do you and your wallet more harm than good, and chances are you’ll regret it later.

- Always proofread everything. You don’t want to accidentally write fuck instead of duck.

- Drink lots of water. Whatever the problem is, drinking more water is the answer.

- Your agenda is not a piece of decoration, it has a purpose and you should use it.

- Prioritise. Don’t spend all your time and effort on an essay that counts 5% of the year instead of revising for a final that counts 20%.

- Do NOT plagiarise. I don’t want to sound like every other professor, but don’t do it. You can get in very serious trouble if you’re caught.

- A bad grade isn’t the end of the world. It’s just that, a grade.

- You can do it. You’ve made it this far and no one can tell you you’re not good enough.

OUT AND ABOUT: SUNSET AT THE BEACH

Waking up at 5:30AM is no fun. But when it is to go to the beach to watch the sun rise with your friends, then it doesn’t seem as bad. I love pretty skies and, in fact, I have stayed up a few nights after a night out just to see the sun rise from my terrace. So when we talked about missing on a lay in to go to the beach very early in the morning, I was 100% down.

It was weird seeing that beach so empty as, during the day, it is absolutely packed and you can barely walk without steeping on someone’s towel. We got there at about 6:40AM and sat down to have some coffee and biscuits whilst the sun was rising.  I had seen many sunsets from that same spot before but they had been nowhere near as beautiful as that sunrise. As you will see in the pictures, it was breathtaking and something worth doing if you live near the beach or are on holiday.

We stayed there until about 8AM, when the sun was completely up and shining. I don't think I had ever taken pictures that early in the day - as I am usually in bed or rushing to uni - but the lighting, oh the lighting, it was incredible. The most ordinary picture looked like straight out of a travel magazine, and I did feel like I was in some tropical island in the Caribbean or Hawaii.

4 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT STUDYING SCIENCE

The general response whenever I say I study Chemistry at university is along the lines of ‘ooh, it must be so hard’ or ‘wow, you must be very clever’ and sometimes ‘you don’t look like someone who does science’. If you even tell me that last one, I’ll get very offended and probably start being rude to you. Yes, I can do my make up and yes, I like fashion. But that doesn’t mean I can’t study science. Anyway, there’s this perception of science being very hard which is by all means not true.

I am about to go into my fourth year of university, meaning that I have been studying chemistry for three years. So, I’ve gathered a thing of two that I think makes studying science more bearable than other subjects and shows that it is actually not THAT hard.

LACK OF DEADLINES.

This obviously depends on the university you attend. In my experience, though, I have found I have much less projects that some of my friends doing other degrees like Marketing or Journalism. I do of course have a few reports to write every term but other than that, no more deadlines.

The lack of projects is mainly due to my busy schedule, we can easily spend from 9AM until 6PM in lectures and labs so it’s not like they leave us a lot of free time to write. But I do prefer it that way as at least I get to be with friends instead of sitting in the library typing away on my laptop.

LABS

I do spend a ridiculous amount of time in labs, last year it was about 20hours a week so it is an important part of your degree and it obviously counts towards your final grade. The good thing about it is that it is relatively easy to get a good grade on your lab work since there are plenty of people around you to help you if you need it (it is also very easy to cheat but that’s not the way to do it…). Some of the experiments are also quite cool and you feel like you’re in some kind of American movie using that dry ice, which turns out is heavier and colder than I thought.

COOL LECTURES

This depends on whether a certain topic interests you and obviously many of the lectures are rather boring. But learning some techniques used to cure cancer, the chemistry behind MRI scans or how our DNA works is pretty cool. Also, let’s not forget the highlight of my whole degree: the day I learnt about the polymers that are used to make candles.

DRUGS

This is only if you do sciences like chemistry being able to make drugs is quite cool, imagine being able to walk into a room being like ‘Hey, my name is Ariadna and I know how to synthesise cocaine’, now that’s an icebreaker. BUT DON’T DO DRUGS kids, it will kill ya.

THINGS I'VE BEEN LOVING

It’s that time again, the time I share with you all what I have been loving recently. These are some of my favourite kind of posts as I have discovered so many amazing products by reading other people’s posts.

There aren’t any beauty items this time as, since coming back home, I have barely used any make up and my skincare routine consists of using my holy grail moisturiser and that’s about it. But I do have a few fashion favourites amongst other similarly cool stuff.

FASHION

Off the shoulder tops - It is an OBSESSION. I personally love these two striped one because as much as I might be obsessed with this kind of tops I am also obsessed with stripes. The navy one is from Brandy Melville and the white one from Zara. The latter one is also one of the comfiest tops I own which is a plus, and looks divine with my *somewhat* tan skin.

Denim shorts - If during winter the only colours I wear is black, white take its spot in summer. 90% of my tops are white - and the other 10% are black, because some habits never die. And because I can't wear all white all die I usually pair all of my white tops with some high waisted denim shorts.

Platform Sandals - I am not exactly tall - a nicer way to say I am rather short - so any shoes that add some height are my dream. However, wearing heels or wedges everyday is not my idea of fun so these platform sandals are my saviour. They are super trendy now so you’ll find them anywhere, this silver ones are from Stradivarius and the black ones from Bimba y Lola.

RANDOM

The Catch - I talked about this TV show on my ‘Best Shows to Binge Watch’ post. I recently discovered it and watched an entire season in a week.

Watermelon - It is hands down my favourite fruit ever and I can never get enough, one of the main reasons I love summer so much.

CONFESSIONS OF A POKEMON GO ADDICT

About a month ago the world went cray cray over a new app - Pokemon Go. You’ve literally been living under a rock if you don’t know what it is or know someone who plays it. To summarise, it’s a game where you have to physically move around your city or wherever you are to try and catch them all (Pokemons, that is). You get to collect these little animals and evolve them to make them strong and win battles at the Pokegyms.

I’ve never been one to play games on my phone but I did get proper obsessed with this app and, together with my sister, went on more than one pokemon hunt around my town only to realise there was nothing else other than annoying Zubats and Ratattas. I swear if I see one more I’m going to loose it.

Even though being that absorbed into a game is not healthy and it would probably better to put our phones down and go our and breathe some fresh air, it has had some positive impact on my life - or as much of a positive impact as a virtual reality can have.

EXERCISE

During winter I am quite an active person. However, come summer and I barely move. The heat kills me and only walking from my room to the kitchen makes me sweat, so the mere thought of going out to run makes me hyperventilate. But because the only way to catch pokemons is by leaving the house and exploring the surroundings, it's made me go out and do something other than watch TV with the AC on.

BONDING

I have genuinely bonded with some people over Pokemon Go. It gives you a common ground and something to talk and ‘fangirl’, if you will, about. It’s also made me spend more time with my sister as we were both equally addicted to the game. I've also spent more time looking at my phone instead of maybe talking to people, but that's not the point of this post...

MEMORIES

Not gonna lie, I used to be more of a Digimon girl growing up but I did watch Pokemon too. Playing the game made me reminisce about the past and brought back some good memories I had forgotten about. It has also kind of made me want to watch the series again but I feel like that would be going a bit too far, so I'll resist the temptation. #Pray4Ariadna

LEARNING ABOUT MY SURROUNDINGS

Since the Pokestops are meant to represent meaningful spots in a city or town, stopping at each and every one of them has made me learn about some landmarks and important things I didn’t know about. It has also made me pay more attention to my surroundings and even explore areas I hadn't been in before.

BEST & WORST HYPED UP PRODUCTS

I’ll be the first one to admit I use to be a sucker for hyped up products. I would watch 10 videos of 10 different youtubers talking about a lipstick and I would die to get it, they loved it so much I HAD to have it. A few impulse buys and too much money later, I realised that many hyped up products are just pretty or by a renowned brand, but the product itself is not that great at all.

However, some go these hyped up products are pretty amazing and I am glad I decided to try them out as I’m still using them a few years later.

Today I’ll share with you some of those products, the ones I regretted buying almost instantly and the ones I fell in love with.

THE WORST

RIMMEL BABY LIPS

Who remembers when Baby Lips was all the rage on YouTube and people would literally  have them in every single colour/flavour. I ended up getting three different ones, all of which I gave to my sister after a while because I hated them. They are not moisturising at all and even though it does give a nice touch of colour, it’s not long-lasting whatsoever. So all in all, not a very great product.

BENEFIT PUSH UP LINER

I got it as a present with my They’Re Real Mascara and even though I did use it all, I would never buy it. It’s meant to be very easy to use but I personally found it much harder than a normal liquid liner. Also, it was ridiculously hard to remove unless you used Benefit’s make up remover which is way overpriced and I wasn’t willing to spend the money on it. Once it was on, it did look great but not much better than my regular liquid liners.

EOS LIP BALM

This is not a terrible product and I do use it almost everyday but I don’t think it’s as great as a I was expecting it to be, based on all the wonderful review I had read/heard. I have to say they do smell pretty good and the packaging is so cute, but in terms of how moisturising it is I would say it’s just average.

THE BEST

RIMMEL STAY MATTE POWDER

Who remembers when literally every single Youtuber was raving about this? I do, and this is why I decided to get it… over four years ago. Now, I still use it every single time I do my make up and it does its job to perfection - no caking an it feels light on the skin. I cannot recommend it enough and  I don’t even know how many of them I’ve been through.

BENEFIT THEY’RE REAL MASCARA

It took me a while to get this one as I was a bit skeptical and the price didn’t exactly help. At £23 per tube, it’s rather pricey for a mascara but it’s 100% worth it. If you’re anything like me na have rater short eyelashes, this is your product. It lengthens them and makes them a bit thicker but it doesn’t clump them, which is great. It also stays on forever unless you use make up remover and even then it’s not an easy job, which is the only downside of this product.

URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTES

About a year ago I got my first ever Naked Palette and, despite it’s not so cheap price tag, it’s the product I use the most. I use it to highlight my brow bone, to fill in my eyebrows, as an eyeliner and as normal eyeshadow. So, the price is definitely worth it and you get what you pay for!

BEST HEALTHY AND EASY ICE CREAM

There are two things I can eat non-stop in summer: fruit and ice-cream. Thus, nothing makes me happier than eating a beautiful big bowl of iced cold and refreshing fruity ice-cream. I kid you not, I make ice-cream almost every day, whether it is for breakfast or as a snack; so I’ve pretty much mastered it and found which fruit combos work better (for me). Making healthy ice cream at home is ridiculously easy and quick and all you need is fruit, a freezer and a blender or food processor.

Any fruits you like will work for this so experiment and try out different combinations to find your fave flavour. Today, I am going to share what I think is hands down the nicest ice cream flavour ever.

INGREDIENTS (3-4 servings)

  • 100gr frozen pineapple
  • 150gr frozen melon
  • 100gr frozen strawberries
  • 50gr frozen papaya
  • 50gr icing sugar (optional)
  • 2tsp lemon juice
  • One egg white

HOW TO

The process is super easy. I use a Thermomix to do it so if you have one all you have to do is chuck everything inside and mix at velocity 5 for about 2min or until everything is smooth.

If you use any other kind of blender or food processor the process is pretty similar: blend everything together until smooth making sure there are no chunks of frozen fruit that haven’t been blended.

And voilà, you’ve got yourself some delicious ice-cream. As I said before, you could use any fruit you like but this combo is my fave!

OUT AND ABOUT: FRANCE, PYRENEES, NAVARRA AND THE BASQUE COUNTRY

I’ve been a bit MIA these past few days, I was away for about a week and when I got back needed a two days to recover from a rather exhausting trip. If you’ve been following me on Twitter and Instagram you would know I’ve been in the South of France and North of Spain this past week. I took a flight with my dad and my sister  to Bilbao where I spent one day before taking a bus to France - where the adventure started.

We did a bit of the famously known Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James in English). If you don’t know what it is, it’s a pilgrimage route which finishes in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia (northwestern Spain). It used to be a spiritual route and, though it’s not my case, many people still do it for that same reason.

After spending the morning in the picturesque French town  of St. Jean-Pied-de-Port - very small but so beautiful -  we started our four day hike and walked about 7km to a refugee in the middle of the Pyrenees. The views of massive green valleys were incredible and breathtaking.

The following day we walked about 18km to Roncesvalles - i.e. I freaking climbed the Pyrenees, how cool am I. It was hard but not as bad as I was expecting, even though the extreme fogginess, the rain and the wind didn’t exactly help. I was a bit gutted when I realised I had missed the Spanish-French border and didn’t get my picture…I guess I’ll have to go back.

After resting for the rest of the day and eating A LOT of food to regain some energy, we had a somewhat good night sleep and woke up ready to walk 22km up to a small town in Navarra called Zubiri where I got tendinitis and two bad knees. Despite these small complications I still enjoyed the town and the following day walked another 24km up to Pamplona. On our way there we stopped at a small restaurant in a town where I had an amazing squid and prawn burger which gave me food poisoning so, sadly, I didn’t get to walk around Pamplona much.

Finally, we took a bus to San Sebastián from Pamplona and spent our last day there before taking plane to go back home. I had been to San Sebastian before but I didn't  remember how beautiful it was - the perfect flower arrangements in every single street, the cute unique boutiques, the warm but not too hot weather, etc. Such a beautiful city!

And, ladies and gents, this was my 6 day break from hot and sweaty Mallorca, it was so nice to spend a few days in a colder weather! It was a bit different to my usual holidays but I had so much fun and it was cool to visit so many different cities and small towns.

BEST TV SHOWS TO BINGE WATCH

Not gonna lie, I binge watch shows all year around. But I only do it guilt-free during the summer when I’ve got no work to do and no exams or deadlines coming up. Recently I’ve been really into crime TV shows, I find them so interesting and I love guessing who the ‘bad guy’ is or how the investigation is going to end.

Some of these TV shows I watch them on TV whenever they’re on and some others I spend hours on my laptop watching episode after episode. Here are my favourites.

The Catch

A few friends had told me about this new show by Shonda Rhimes and, since I love Grey’s Anatomy, I decided to give it a go. I ended up watching the first season in a week and can’t wait for it to come back. It’s about a P.I. whose perfect life crumbles down after her fiancé disappears.

Body of Proof

This one reminds me quite a lot to Castle and it’s why I started watching it. The main character, Megan Hunt, is a forensic medical examiner and together with her team they solve homicides. The show was cancelled after three seasons, which is annoying because I loved it so much.

Criminal Minds

I have a love/hate relationship with this TV show. I like it because it’s about solving different kind of crimes like murder, fraud, etc but it can get quite dark and I get scared very easily so not ideal for me! But I still watch it and love it.

Castle

That’s how my love for crime TV shows started, I love Castle and Beckett and their chemistry. I was hooked after only a few episodes and I couldn’t stop watching. Sadly, the last episode aired a few months ago so no more Castle even though I have been re-watching it from the beginning and I’m loving it even more.

Hawaii Five-O

This is one of those TV shows that I started watching during Easter Break when I was procrastinating and there was nothing else worth watching on TV. At first, I enjoyed watching it because 1) I love Hawaii and 2) I love crime solving anything. I also love Steve and Danny's chemistry #bromance.
